Cob Catches are picking up in Mossel Bay Waters

Winter is something of the past. Although we had good catches of  Hake and Red Fish during the winter the Cob was just gone. I am glad to say that during our fishing trips the past few weeks we were lucky to have some good cob catches. On the other side I do not think it is all about luck. Our skippers with years of experience of the Mossel Bay fishing grounds play a great role in taking our trippers to the fish. We expect that Cob will be getting more as we are nearing the summer and the temperature of the sea water will rise.

Shark catches on Nikita in Mossel Bay

On 2 January 2011 the young fisherman Sarudo Bonafede ( 14 years old)) was the lucky one who got a Thresher (sambokhaai) hooked while waiting for cob to bite. This was an early birthday present as he turned 15 the next day. Congratulations Sarudo, with your birthday and also landing this immaculate shark. The skipper Japie, of fishing boat Nikita brought Sarudo  and his fellow fishermen to the fishing spot. A few under size Cob and red fish were caught as well as a number of  Barbels.  Another Thresher was hooked but the angler was not able to land the shark.

Our fleet consist of 3 registered Butt Cat Charter Vessels with full SAMSA safety certificates, which can be chartered for up to 12 passengers or the boats can be chartered by you exclusively. Deep Sea adventures can take up to 40 people out  to sea at a time, which is ideal for large corporate groups and team building  . We operate throughout the year on a daily basis if the weather permits. Younger children are not barred but may not enjoy the experience as much as parents imagine. But from eight the magic of a sea trip is wonderful to see in a childs eyes. They must always wear a life jacket and are the responsibility of their parents or guardian wile aboard.

All the fish you catch can be taken home to show off to the family and friends. This is of course subject to size and bag limits. Please be aware tat every person wants to go on a fishing trip must be in possession of a valid recreational fishing

Deep Sea Adventures is the biggest fishing charter company in the area from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town

We are the biggest fishing charter company in our area from PE to Cape Town and the only charter business which started from our commercial fishing. Biggest: meaning that we can charter up to 40 customers at any single moment, making use of four vessels at once, but we are just as keen on taking even one customer to sea with the same dedication to catch all the options available on the day.

Bottom fish such as Santer, Red Roman, Miss Lucy, Rockod, Cape salmon and Cob is mainly caught with Big Cob being our main objective, as can be seen on most of our photos.

A selection of realy large sharks have been caught by the boats of deep sea adventures in Mossel  Bay

Game fish species like yellowtail and Bonito also occur in these waters, some years from November to April.  Big Shark such as the beautiful Thresher with it’s tailfin as long as the rest of its body we have had magical fights with the fish breaching three or four times before being brought to the boat.  Other breaching sharks such as the Mako and off course the Mighty Great White also occur in these waters, as it is known world wide.  Other big sharks such as the Ragged Tooth , Hammer Head and Blue shark, which can all grow up to a few hundred kilo’s have also been hooked.

All sharks and rays are handled with great respect and gently released after being brought to the boat.  Hooks are removed and only quick degradable hooks are used on our expeditions and no stainless steel or galvanized gear.

Deep Sea adventures are Eco friendly
Our boats are designed by South Africans and build for the South African commercial conditions, in that they are large, but light they do not need massive engines to be powered, 90 to 115 horsepower does the job very significantly.  We’ve turned eco friendly in that we switched to four stroke technologies which make an even more enjoyable journey without two stroke fumes, nothing to spoil the fresh ocean breeze in your face.

All our boats are catamarans and renewed for stability on the water, which has seen to the pleasure of thousands of happy clients and a 100% safety record since our existence about 12 years ago.

Dreamcatcher, one of the fishing boats of Deep Sea Adventures is a registered passenger charter vessel, has a full SAMSA (South African Maritime Safety Authority) safety certificate and always has a qualified skipper onboard. Dreamcatcher is an 8m Buttcat. The boat is equipped with two, powerful 115 Mercury outboard engines. It has GPS (global positioning by satellite) and a Fish Finder onboard. Dreamcatcher also has a toilet facility onboard, comfortable seating and an enclosed cabin with soft resting place for the kids. The boat operates daily from Quay 4, Commercial Slipway, next to the Mossel Bay Yacht Club where all cruises begin and end.  Thus far we maintain a 100% safety record.

Cob, Shad and Cape Salmon catches in Mossel Bay

Good cob catches in Mossel bay have been reported the past month. A lot of small fish is also biting but as you can see with a little bit of luck you can get the big one as well. Some good catches of Cape Salmon and shad were done as well. It is to be honest not only luck. To get to the big ones depends on the weather, the bait and of course the skipper of the vessel. Years of experience  is needed to take the fishermen to the right spots in the ocean to be able to get these big ones.
